LS Hochbunker renovation for Museum of Contemporary Arts is focused on preserving the unique structure of the 1942 nazi antiaircraft shelter by Richard Konwiarz. The claustrophobic atmosphere of the rounded corridor-like spaces is reduced by opening the rows of doors which were originally bricked up. Additional openings are made in exhibition spaces were part of the floor is removed. The roof is reserved for café in cylindrical glassed pavilion around the existing core.

The Terrace Restaurant by Max Berg is the integral part of the Pergola designed by Hans Poelzig. The whole complex – together with monumental Centennial Hall – was built in 1913 as a part of Fairgrounds in Wroclaw. The restaurant was burnt at the end of WWII, and only the structure survived. The bulidng was remodeled for the Exhibition of Retaken Grounds – a communist propaganda fair, when it became the office and magazine facility. In 2009, after the competition judged by international jury, the new investment started in order to reintroduce the restaurant by the Pergola. The new program was added to create the biggest convention center in the region of Lower Silesia. The new volumes extending symmetrically to the East and West are the half of the size allowed in the competition brief. It was to preserve the unique views towards the Hall and neighboring Four Copulas Pavilion by Poelzig. The interior is open to the surroundings – the whole northern wall is glassed for breathtaking perspective to the pond. The new elements of spatial organization are hued in Pergola’s autumn ivy leaves’ color.
